As My wife will attest, I work hard, yet somehow so often miss the "playing hard" balance in life.
It was Jenn's idea that led us to where we now - getting ready for our first-ever family vacation. Amazing.
It's a long story, but I basically was told I needed to take my two weeks so we set the date. After working like crazy either at my job or at home (finishing a basement/moving/packing/etc) for the past month, and just completing my recurrent company training, the time has finally come.
We leave tomorrow morning. I'm sitting in Tampa waiting for my connecting flight home from training and thinking about all the last minute things I might have forgotten. I think we are as prepared as we are going to be.
We've been talking to our kids (well, mostly my 3.5 year old) about "the road trip". My daughter is thoroughly prepared, and every time I've talked to her rehearses all the things she can do and the places we talked about going. I'm excited about not working. Not having to always check email. Being together with my family and having only a basic plan of where we want to go. The fun part is figuring out the rest along the way.
So, the plan is spending a few days to visit family in TX, getting to experience New Orleans, LA, Visiting family in North Carolina, and spending a few days in DC. A big circle of the eastern half of the US. When we get there or what we'll be doing along the way will be totally spontaneous. I can't wait.
My job is driven by being at a specific place, at a specific time, getting specific catering, and taking specific people. This will be the exact opposite and I'm excited to see what we find along the journey.
Here's to Vacation!
